Washington County Artists Recognized
Thirty-one artists from Washington County were honored by the Friends of the Germantown Community Library at its annual meeting in October. The meeting featured the juried 2009 Purchase Art Award Contest ceremony. The art contest was designed to enhance the visual arts in Washington County and encourage its amateur artists.
More than fifty works of art were judged by Susan Farmer-Tiefenthaler, instructor and Professor Emeritus, at the University Wisconsin, Madison. The works were judged on originality, technical excellence and unusually fine presentation. Kathy Lammert, Hubertus, was awarded the First Prize ribbon and $300 for "Knowledge is the Wonder of the World". The painting was gifted to the Germantown Community Library. The Second Prize ribbon and $75 was given to Frank Reimer of Germantown for "Bedtime Story". "Golden Gate Park Waterlily" earned Mary Boettcher, Germantown, the Third Prize ribbon and $50.
Honorable mention ribbons wereawarded to Germantown's Polly Edgar, Paul Fusek, D.L. Orth and Otto Pena. Twenty-five Certificates of Merit were also awarded. The contest art works were displayed at the library for the month of October.
Information on the 2010 Purchase Award Art Contest will be avail this spring at all of the Washington County libraries.
