GHS Warchix Poms & Dance Team

Feb. 2, 2011

Currently the Germantown Warchix Poms & Dance team consists of 21 total High School girls who come from a variety of talented dance backgrounds. The team recently just competed at the WACPC Dance Regionals in Oshkosh on Saturday, January 29th. The team performed both an Open (Dance and Pom combination) Routine and a Kick-line (min of 50 kicks) Routine. Although, the team did not place for State qualifications, the team did improve up 3 spots from last seasons rankings. This year the team was placed in Division 1 status, based on new WIAA enrollments counts. With putting Germantown in the highest level, we found ourselves against some great competition, for which we felt honored to be compared to.

As the team is beginning to wind down on State and Local competitions, they are still currently preparing for the Badgerette Spirit Invitational coming up on February 27th in West Allis. The team will be performing two brand new routines, which are a stretch from any other type of Dance they have ever taken to a competition this season. The 21 members will be doing a new two and half minute routine reflecting their ability to demonstrate high level dance and technical skills. In addition, 14 of the members will be performing a Contemporary piece for the judges.

If this is not enough of their plates, the girls have performed at every home High School Varsity football game and 12 of the Boys and Girls Varsity basketball games. Since the Varsity boys team has been so successful the girls will be able to perform at any upcoming playoffs, moving their overall season out another month. This is the type of dedication that these girls have had to make to the team. Unlike most athletics offered at Germantown High School, the Poms and Dance team usually goes year-long, not just a school designated season.

Another successful momnent occurred when the team traveled to St. Norbert College Badgerette Camp, where three of the girls, Lauren Tetzke, Kelsey Dittloff, and Hayley Tyvoll were invited to the Orlando, FL Walt Disney All-Star trip based on their talent and showmanship. In addition, those three along with Ellie Strehlow were invited to dance at the Hollywood, CA Funk-Dance trip. If this was not enough, Lauren, Kelsey and Hayley, along with other member Kerry Lisicki were invited and in fact attended the New York, NY Dance Starz trip this past November. Lauren, Kelsey and Kerry, along with their Coach Sara Glodoski had the opportunity to Dance with professionals on Broadway in Manhattan!

While most teams, don't have to worry about performances in the summer, these girls worked hard to receive a 1st place rating in Performance; and placed 2nd out of 12 in their "Open" routine, a 2.5 minute dance and poms routine. They also received a 1st place rating in Performance and placed 2nd out of 12 in their Technical Skills routine. Our nine Seniors earned 2nd place in the Senior kick line dance. These achievements qualified the team to the Illinois-Midwest Competition this past August.

At the Midwest Invitational, the entire 21 girl team, was given the award for 9th Best in the Midwest. This honor allowed for first time Germantown HS invitation to the Disney All-Star tour in Orlando, FL coming up February 17th - 21st. The entire team was invited to perform because of their excellence in Dance performance and commitment as a Grand Champion team. The team and other Coach Jennifer Collings are currently working hard for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Lastly, besides concentrating on their competitions and performances, these young and talented dancers also gave back to their community by holding youth clinics offered through the Germantown Rec Dept and held the first Annual Dance Day at the High School, on Saturday, January 22nd. The Dance Day featured several local artists in the area for children from grades 3rd through 12th, whom experienced various types of Dance such as Jazz, Modern, Latin, and Hip Hop.
