Germantown boys basketball
In a physical game, Warhawks' guard LaMonte Bearden hit 12-of-12 free throws as he and Jon Averkamp had 18 points apiece in a 71-46 North Shore Conference decision over Port Washington on Friday.
With the win, the top-ranked Warhawks improved to 6-0 in North Shore play and 8-0 overall. Entering Saturday night's nonconference game with state-ranked Division 2 power East Troy (see GermantownNOW.com for details), Germantown had a 36-game winning streak.
The Warhawks now make another appearance in the eighth annual Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout at Concordia University in Mequon. They take on unbeaten Arrowhead at 8:30 p.m. Thursday and then challenge Milwaukee Riverside at 9 p.m. Friday.
Against host Port, the Warhawks began slowly, pulling ahead by a 16-11 count at the quarter before gaining some breathing room with a 21-9 in the second period.
As noted, the game was physical as Germantown hit 32-of-44 free throws in the contest as opposed to just seven of 10 for the Pirates. Bearden and Averkamp led the way. Averkamp had seven field goals and hit four-of-six free throws en route to his season high.
Luke Fischer also had 13 for Germantown.

Menomonee Falls wrestling
The Indians challenging schedule continues Friday and Saturday at the Northern Exposure Dual Meet Invite at Merrill. Falls will wrestle up to seven dual meets over the course of the two-day event, which also features Falls' Greater Metro Conference rivals West Allis Central and Brookfield East.
Germantown girls basketball
The Warhawks (6-3), took on Arrowhead in the Al McGuire Classic at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee on Saturday to close out their preholiday slate.
They are off until Jan. 4 when they visit Nicolet in a North Shore Conference game. Germantown was to have taken on Port Washington in a league game on Dec. 20 but that game was postponed by the strong winter storm that hit the area that day.
