The Menomonee Falls Indians rallied for a 3-1victory over the host Germantown Warhawks in the annual battle of County Line Road on Saturday.
"I thought our guys played well," Indians coach Scott Stein said, whose team also beat Nathan Hale, 4-2, and Nicolet, 4-1, last week to improve to 5-4-1 in the still young season. "We started slow but in the second half we dominated. They're fast in transition, and I think we did a nice job cutting them off."
"This is always a fun game. The guys compete against one another at Sports Club (at the Schwabenhof in Menomonee Falls) and there's always good energy."
Germantown (1-5) got the first goal from Bradley Bane (assist Michael Scherer) in the seventh minute, but six minutes later, A.D. Gonzales tied the score for the Indians.
Falls got the eventual game-winner at the 58th minute on what Stein felt was a "beautiful set piece" of a free kick as Geoff Cimpl lofted the ball to a well-positioned A.J. Patterson who headed the ball in. It was the last score in a spectacular six-goal week for Patterson.
Gonzales then added an insurance goal four minutes later.
Ben Dederich had three saves for Falls while Robert Huss had seven for the Warhawks. Stein also praised the work of forward Corey Volden.
