Sports Notes: Aug. 24

Thielke wins FILA Cadet Pan American title

Two-time WIAA state wrestling champion from Germantown Jesse Thielke, earned the gold medal in the 119-pound division at the 2009 FILA Cadet Pan American championships, held in Managua, Nicaragua, this past week.

Wrestlers from 29 countries in North, Central and South America took part in the event. Cadet-level athletes are 15-17 years old. Thielke is entering his junior year at Germantown and in the off-season, he competes for the Ringers Wrestling Club.

A total of 24 American wrestlers took part in the event.

Earlier in the summer, Thielke had taken 15th in his weight class in the FILA Junior World Team Championships in Ankara, Turkey. Most of the athletes he competed against were 17-20 years old. In preparation for that competition, Thielke spent most of the summer at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

GT Jaguars U-13 team wins state title

The Germantown Jaguars U-13 baseball team took first in its division in the Wisconsin State Youth Baseball League this summer.

The team is made up of seventh- and eighth-graders in the Germantown district.

Germantown's Klebesadel earns certification

Germantown Athletic Director Jack Klebesadel recently earned Certified Athletic Administrator honors from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.

To earn this distinction, Klebesadel had to undergo a voluntary certification process including a thorough examination of his educational background, experience and professional contributions as well as a rigorous written examination.

The NIAAA has more than 7,600 members in all 50 states and is dedicated to promoting the professional growth of high school athletic administrators and preserving the educational nature of interscholastic athletics.
