Germantown, Falls players make All-Suburban team
It was double the fun for both the Menomonee Falls and Germantown girls softball teams as both of the area conference championship softball squads netted two selections each to the NOW Newspapers All-Suburban squad.
Falls' Morgan McCoy was a repeat selection in the outfield and will be joined by her teammate, pitcher and Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year pitcher Beth Nitz. The Indians also earned a berth in this season's WIAA State Tournament.
For North Shore champ Germantown, two-time all-state selection Amy Johnson is a repeat choice on the infield and will be joined by teammate and utility choice Jannelle Schroder.
The area players were joined by Greenfield's Shannon Butts (utility and player of the year), Stacey Butts (infield), and Sara Fisher (outfield); New Berlin Eisenhower's Lauren Beres (pitcher), Kayla Schlegel (pitcher), Liz Wiese (outfield) and Megan Duerlinger (catcher); Brookfield East's Lexi Sotiros (infield); Cudahy's Alisa Damitz (infield) and Homestead's Michelle Zoeller (infield). Greenfield's Jack Miller is the coach of the year.
For the first time ever, fans had a say in which players made the team through online voting. Fan voting accounted for 25 percent of the selection process; staff voting made up the rest.
The leading online vote-getters at each position: utility - Shannon Butts (94 votes); outfield - Fisher (69); infield - Stacey Butts (89); pitcher - Cudahy's Sam Homa (86); catcher - Duerlinger (108); coach of the year - Miller (89); and player of the year - Sotiros (74). Homa did not garner enough staff votes for inclusion and was named high honorable mention.
