Sports Notes: April 16

Germantown Basketball Club workout dates set for April

The Germantown Girls Basketball Club has openings for current fifth- through eighth-grade girls interested in playing competitive basketball and developing individual skills this summer.

Practices will be held Sundays. Weekly league games will begin in early June and run through July. At least two weekend tournaments are planned.

Initial workouts will be held Sunday, April 19 and Sunday, April 26, at Germantown High School. Attendance at both dates is recommended. All girls will be placed on a team at this time. Times are: fifth and sixth graders - 4-5:30 p.m.; seventh and eighth graders - 5:30-7 p.m.

Cost will be $120 plus $20 for a jersey if you are new to the program. Payment is due by the first practice date.

Falls youth basketball team takes third in top tournament

The St. Agnes/St. Anthony's of Menomonee Falls eighth-grade girls basketball team recently finished third in the Padre Serra Tournament.

The invitational tournament included 36 of the best teams from the Milwaukee Archdiocese.

The Charger/Deacons won their first three games and before losing to eventual champion St. John Vianney Brookfield, 38-27, in the semifinals. The Falls team then beat St. Edwards Racine, 39-34, in the third place game and finished 17-9 overall.

Team members included Kristina Bridger, Sarah Brooks, Leslie Cimpl, Jamie Ertl, Elizabeth Feltman, Rachel Kemnitz, Madeline Molnor, Maggie Novak and Carly Poth. Coaches were John Feltman, Mark Kemnitz, John Molnor and Mike Novak.

Maggie Novak was voted to the all-tournament team.

Former Germantown track athlete begins college career

Samantha Stykel, a 2008 Germantown High School graduate, is a member of the Luther College (Iowa) track and field team.

Stykel will compete in mid-distance events.

Nagawaukee golf league looking for players

The Nagawaukee Tuesday Women's 18 Hole Golf League is looking for new members and/or subs for the 2009 season.
