Summer construction brings exciting new things to Menomonee Falls, Germantown

It doesn't take much of a drive through the area to see there is all kinds of construction happening throughout Menomonee Falls and Germantown this summer. And as ground is broken, new structures begin to appear and facades are redone, there is a buzz around town about what is happening where.

In recent months, George Webb opened in Colonial Plaza and Rogan's Shoes opened in Falls Crossing in Menomonee Falls.

In addition, construction is underway to redo the facade of the old Pick 'n Save storefront at the Crossroads Shopping Center on County Line Road and Appleton Avenue, an area that is bustling with new development across the county line as well.

A Maurices store will anchor a new retail development that neighbors Germantown Plaza. Construction has begun at the 3.7-acre site, which will feature a four-tenant 23,248-square-foot retail building including Maurices.

Meanwhile, a Buffalo Wild Wings will be soon be front and center along County Line Road as part of a redevelopment of a portion of the Riversbend Country Club golf course property.

"I can't wait for the BW3s to be open," said Menomonee Falls resident Josh Meyers. "I love watching games there, and the wings are amazing!"

In addition to the 7,715- square-foot restaurant, the redevelopment will also incorporate a new golf club house and a 9,150-square-foot multi-tenant retail building. While original plans included a possible 7,660-square-foot Olive Garden as well, those plans were withdrawn from the project in February.

Industrial, office and residential development is also popping up throughout Menomonee Falls, said Director of Community Development Matt Carran. A 202,950-square-foot distribution center for FedEx has been approved a third of a mile east of Pilgrim Road.

On the docket for approval is also a 158,292-square-foot industrial building in the Westbrook Corporate Park.

In addition, a 21,000-square-foot office building near Appleton Avenue and Good Hope Road has been approved that will house an unknown business, and Kohl's is expanding within existing buildings in the village.

There has been also been continued progress in the downtown Village Centre area with the Purloin Art Studio and Coffee House nearing completion of a new facade project and the Blue Heron Mural that was recently installed along Appleton Avenue.

Single-family residential development has also picked up, Carran said, as work in five subdivisions are in various stages of development. The result will be 523 new single-family lots in Christman Estates, Silver Spring Estates, Spencer's Pass West, Wruck lands and Weyerhaven.

In addition, two projects have been approved for 462 dwelling units for multifamily development, including 318 near Roosevelt and Water Street and 144 near Good Hope Road and Appleton Avenue.

"All of this development has occurred since the first of the year — so yes we have been busy," Carran said.
