Superintendent to retire; board member resigns
Germantown — Wanted: A superintendent and a School Board member.
On Monday, Superintendent Kenneth Rogers announced his retirement effective June 30, and board member Michael Schultz resigned effective Feb. 15.
Time to slow down
"I believe it may be time for me to slow down a little and take some time to pursue some other life goals," Rogers said in a news release. He has been with the district since July 2008.
"I truly appreciate the experience to work for a well-respected, highly successful school district," he stated.
Before coming to Germantown, Rogers, 58, was the district administrator with the Eleva-Strum School District for nine years. His career started in the 1970s as an orchestra director for the Janesville School District. He had several different titles along the way, including music director, high school principal, and director of curriculum and instructional technology.
His salary is $141,500
The board will advertise for a replacement with applications due in early March. The plan is to have a replacement by July 1.
Board member moving
Schultz, 53, is relocating to Ashville, N.C.
"While I expect to be alternating residences for the near future, I am convinced the role on the School Board demands a full-time resident to be effective," he said in an e-mail.
Schultz, whose position as a customer service manager at Metavante had been eliminated this summer, has been looking for work. He and his wife have decided to continue the job search in Ashville, where he lived for about a month last year.
"Ashville is a gorgeous area," he said.
He and his wife are looking for a fresh start and a new adventure. His children, a 24-year-old son and a 20-year-old daughter, both graduated from Germantown High School.
"I am grateful for the education my kids received," he said.
As part of his appreciation, he volunteered in the computer lab at County Line Elementary School and was president of the high school Band Boosters before running for the board.
He has been on the board five years. His term expires in April 2011.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the community," he said.
Since his seat will not be on the April 6 ballot, the board is planning to appoint someone. The deadline to apply is Monday.
Diana Kline will challenge Cari Brust for Seat 4. Board members Michael Erdmann and Bruce Warnimont are running uncontested. School Board members serve three-year terms and earn $3,500 a year.
