Firemen's Park sparkles July 4
Activities include parade, fireworks
The village's Fourth of July festivities start in Firemen's Park, include a parade and end with fireworks. The parade, which starts at noon July 4, will step off at Francese Drive and Pilgrim Road, travel north on Pilgrim to Fond du Lac Avenue, northwest on Fond du Lac to Main Street, west on Main to Park Avenue and north on Park to Freistadt Road, where the parade ends at Firemen's Park.
The parade theme is Remembering the '50s. The Kiwanis Club, which organizes the event, selected Irene Blau as grand marshal.
During the parade, members of the Germantown Junior Women's Club, Leadership Germantown, the Police Department and Youth Futures will be pushing decorated shopping carts, collecting nonperishable food items, children's clothing and school supplies, said Anne-Marie Hoell, event coordinator. The items will be donated to the food pantry at St. Boniface Church and Kid's Closet. Clothing size zero to 6X are needed, she said.
Roads will be closed at 11 a.m., which is when festivities in the park begin. Thirteen vendors will provide games, food and beverages until 10 p.m.
The Germantown Senior Citizens Club will offer bingo from 1:15 to 5 p.m.
Party Starters DJ Service will provide music from 5:30 p.m. until dusk, when the fireworks will be set off.
Hoell said sponsors still are needed. She said the village's Tourism and Betterment Committee is the event's biggest sponsor.
Looking ahead, Hoell said she is hoping to attract live music next year.
"We are trying to make it bigger and better every year," she said of the festivities.
