Germantown Restaurant Reviews

Here is a list of Germantown-area restaurants written about in the Journal Sentinel. All reviews are dated. Please be aware that restaurant ownership and practices change.

Jerry's Old Town Inn
15841 W Main St, Germantown,(262) 251-4455

Most of this restaurant's renown comes from the great barbecued ribs it serves. But the menu lists a number of Louisianan dishes as well as some steaks. It's a fun place, with ceramic pig figures, stuffed pigs and pig pictures everywhere. Red Snapper etouffee, steak and hickory-smoked chicken are also excellent. If you save room, you may make it through the Pig Slop dessert.

Nardo's Passport Inn
W204N11498 Goldendale Road, Germantown, (262) 628-8884

Don't be thrown off by the categories or international appearance of the menu; dishes might be misnamed, but some are quite good. Worth trying: the Chicken Napoleon, accented with orange liqueur, and prime rib that rates with the best in town.

Trysting Place Pub
N112W16344 Mequon Rd, Germantown, (262) 250-4110
The list of sandwiches served at this busy pub is so long that it occupies two whole menu pages. There are great deli creations like turkey or ham clubs, and excellent chicken breast and pork chop sandwiches. All come with a choice of soup, salad, cole slaw, fries or potato chips. Want to taste a truly great steak sandwich? Then order the tenderloin creation. With melted cheese, mushrooms and onions, it's quite good.

Von Rothenburg Bier Stube
N116W15863 Main St, Germantown,(262) 250-0522
Welcome to Bavaria! Choose from 175 different beers (most just $3.50 for a big stein), and sit in the brick patio in the back, where German tunes (even Deutschland rap) are piped in. Order German specialties such as schnitzel and fries ($5.50 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays), a sausage or rollbraten sandwich. Twinkle lights are strung overhead, foliage and trees fill out the picture. Yah, yah, great patio!

La Chimenea
N112-W15215 Mequon Road, Germantown, (262) 253-1100

The large size of this new Mexican restaurant is a little symbolic of what you'll encounter inside: a huge menu that features dishes that aren't commonly seen on menus in most Mexican restaurants here. Paella is especially good, as are fajitas and tacos. Try the dessert chimichangas for a treat that blends mild cheese and raspberry preserves. (Dennis R. Getto, 9/30/05)"
