cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy and pretense and has the temerity to say so; anyone with the habit of pointing out unpleasant facts in an engaging and humorous manner
Could it be that those of us who have had strong suspicions about the validity of the concept of global warming actually had science on our side?
Maybe the recent 'hacking' of e-mails and reports by what appears to be someone or several someones in Russia will ultimately prove to be the thread that unravels the myth. The reports coming out about the content of those e-mails is disconcerting as to the validity of the "science". The reports seem to point to behind-the-scenes maneuvering on the part of some to cast the results in a certain preordained light. It appears that global warming 'science' has been more based on the suppression of unpleasant theories and fact sets than it has been based on truth and rigorous scientific debate. It seems that the hypothesis was determined regardless of what the facts might have suggested; facts be damned seems to have been a possible battle cry if the preliminary reports are further supported as time passes and more details emerge.
Whether or not there will be thorough investigations remains to be seen, however. This "unpleasant truth" will likely be suppressed, as the 'science' may have been suppressed. The United Nations has long been behind more and more strenuous restrictions for the "haves" so that the "have nots" can claim their "rightful" place in the world's economic order. The mainstream media seems to have convinced itself this was another great discovery it could use to prop itself up a bit longer. Can you imagine the angst that will permeate the global warming conference in Copenhagen? If President Obama actually shows up in Copenhagen, will he at least acknowledge the possibility that more time should be taken before the world plunges pell mell down this slippery slope?
That begs the question of how our government will react, if at all? Will the Obama Administration slow the pace of its heavy-handed regulatory actions? Will Carol Browner actually step back and reassess her intentions as the head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)? Will President Obama order a through review before going any further down the global warming pathway to the ultimate destruction of our economy?
And what about Al Gore, the global warming acolyte? What will Mr. Gore do to re-establish himself if this platform proves to have been faulty all along? Maybe he'll just sit at home in his 14,000 square foot home burning electricity and lamenting the hanging chads.

Male Passenger PigeonPassenger Pigeons (Ectopistes Migratorius) were once so numerous that by some estimates they outnumbered all the rest of the birds in North America combined.
American settlers caused the extinction of these animals in less than 100 years, we are part of the earth and we change the earth, yes humans have the capability of impacting the planet.
Lastly, Al Gore, the real winner of the 2000 election and a Nobel Prize Winner will not need to recant his position.

Over the past 20 years, this country and its citizens have gone to great lengths to clean up the environment from the abuses of the industrial boom from the middle of the last century. Rivers, lakes, and metropolitan air quality are all much cleaner than 20 years ago. There's no question that we desire a clean and healthy environment, but there's no need to be extremist about it. The "sky is falling" mentality just won't work with the millions of us who actually do have some common sense.

1) Who was responsible for the extinction of the dinosaur?
2) Who was responsible for the onset of the ice age?
3) Who was responsible for the glaciers melting?
If you can give me a coherent answer that makes sense, I will gladly consider your point about pigeons.
