School Board Moves HS Principal...
The subject of the closed door meeting held two weeks earlier became known last night. Jim Blackburn, Germantown High School Principal was moved from that position to the new position of Coordinator of Communication and Transition Services. A current assistant principal, Joel Farren, will assume the role of Interim Principal.
The vote was 5-2 with Bruce Warnimont and Cari Brust voting against this action.
We'll not know of the reasons behind this action, unless a leak should occur and that isn't likely, although there had been rumors circulating throughout the last year or more that such an action could occur. I was never able to gain any insight into these rumors, and, personally, thought that Mr. Blackburn was doing a good job. I was not, obviously, privy to any insider knowledge.
The new position had been the subject of discussion at the board meeting two weeks earlier, so that seems to have been part of the master plan. It is ostensibly intended to help those who desire to gain further specific education from any or all available sources. For example, MATC and the district can create better synergies and Germantown can gain a better return on the tax dollars we send in that direction while students benefit. Additionally, the new position would supposedly better coordinate the local co-op program and work with local businesses to provide work opportunities coupled with more specific training.
School Crowding Issues...
Parents of students attending Amy Belle were present to voice their concerns over crowded classes. The school is expected to have 426 students which is nearly 90 students more than the school is supposed to house given the sanitary system involved there. The board probably was thinking about the vote against the most recent school spending issue. I'm not certain but suspect that full-day kindergarten also figures in this situation at Amy Belle.
