Curmudgeon's Corner

cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy and pretense and has the temerity to say so; anyone with the habit of pointing out unpleasant facts in an engaging and humorous manner

Hippocratic Oath

Economy, Healthcare, Quality of Life, Taxes

Doctors are admonished, through the Hippocratic Oath, to "first, do no harm."

Our elected, and some appointed, officials are working at the state and national levels to "reform" health care.  Many have good ideas.  Some have poor ideas.  Most of the ideas carry significant costs...both financial and social.

It seems that the admonishment, "first, do no harm" should be read into the record at the beginning of every committee meeting that deals with health care.  Some of the suggestions being made in those committees will do great harm, and yet those are discussed seriously.

The Galen Institute, a health care think tank based in the Washington, D.C. area put together a petition that it has circulated across the U.S.  It is called the "Do No Harm Petition".

I would urge you to click here and sign that petition regardless of your political persuasion.  It will be presented to Congress in the very near future.

If you wish to send that link to others, this is the URL:  http://www.DoNoHarmPetition.org.

Thanks.
