4th Grade Girl Scout Troop 2866 wins Regional and National Award

St Mary Girl Scout Troop 2866 designed, created and sewed a quilt as part of the requirements to earn their 2008 Girl Scout Cookie Sale Pin and participate in the National GSUSA Dare 2 Share Program. The goal was to tell their story of how they Discover, Connect & Take Action through selling Girl Scout Cookies.

The girls drew their story on white fabric squares and then sewed them together. As part of their   ‘Connect & Take Action’ plan, the troop donated the quilt to the Waukesha Women’s Center along with the 80 boxes of Cookie Share cookies they sold. They enjoyed their new sewing skills so much, that they even used some of their cookie money to buy more fabric and make a second quilt.

In spring of 2008, the quilt won our Regional competition. This honor enabled us to continue on to the National level. In July 2008, our Troop was selected as a Dare to Share Challenge National Finalist - quite an honor to be one of the top ten in the country. Their story along with the other finalists can be viewed at:

On September 23, the troop was asked to make a presentation to the Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE) Board of Directors. Each girl attending read a part of our story –from the beginning of an idea to our national award, to The Board of Directors. The girls were presented with a Gift Certificate to our Council Shop.

Learning new skills, using our creativity and giving back to our community demonstrate not only ‘living the Girl Scouts laws’, but also our Christian values at St. Mary School.
