Curmudgeon's Corner

cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy and pretense and has the temerity to say so; anyone with the habit of pointing out unpleasant facts in an engaging and humorous manner

MATC Action...

The MATC board voted 6-3 to fire President Darnell Cole.  I was surprised with this outcome having surmised that he would receive a reprimand and be required to submit to classes to change his habits, etc., etc.  As I have stated, I wish him the best as he works through this issue, and I'm thankful that no one was injured.

I cannot help but think that the board was looking for a reason to fire him, yet I have nothing concrete to support that thought.  This seems so contrary to the actions of the MATC board in the past.  It has typically fallen into lock step with any idea Cole has had and given him more and more money, even as he sought different jobs.

Something has changed in my opinion, and this occurrence was the very convenient tool they needed to rid themselves of Mr. Cole.

Time For A Change...

We now have Judge Grundahl and Steven Cain as our two selections for the Mid-Moraine Municipal Court judge's position.

Mr. Cain has been accused of unethical conduct according to a story by Dan Benson of the Journal Sentinel staff.  He said that this court had a "kangaroo court" air about it and implored voters to vote for him instead of either of the two other candidates, both of whom have made this accusation.

Mr. Cain may've stepped a little outside the box with that comment although it is difficult to define what is or isn't ethical in this kind of situation.  This court has taken on an air that isn't good and has become a fairly regular subject of press reports.  It is, in my opinion, time for a change on April 7th.

So far as the accusation by Grundahl and Laatsch, might the accusation itself not also qualify as unethical conduct meant to influence the outcome of the election on April 7th?  This all sounds vaguely like sour grapes from a couple of people who were disappointed with their vote totals.

It is time for a new face, so far as I'm concerned.
