Wal-Mart Arrests...

Why would a couple of 17 year old kids decide to expose a pepper-type agent inside the Germantown Wal-Mart?  If the police have found the right people, maybe we'll find out what led them to this act.

Was this an advanced case of Wal-Mart hate?  Had one or both been somehow snubbed by Wal-Mart?  Were they simply out for thrills?

If they prove to be the guilty parties, our department did another solid job with a very trying crime scene.

John Doe Investigation...

The Washington County District Attorney has initiated a John Doe proceeding that seeks to find out if there were violations made in the campaign finance records of Village President Kempinski, and, if so, by whom.  This centers on the reports being obscured with a correction fluid instead of being amended as the law provides for when corrections need to be made.

The news article by Mike Johnson of the Journal Sentinel names Kempinski, Jim Langer, Trustee and the then campaign treasurer for Kempinski, and Dave Schornack, Village Administrator.  From his report, it appears there were conflicting recollections about what happened and what prompted the records to be removed from the Village Hall.  Johnson refers to possible charges that include misconduct in public office, tampering with public records and/or campaign finance report violations.

This investigation was started some time ago and involved the seizure of the documents in question by the Washington County  Sheriff's department in November, 2008.

I blogged about the documents having been altered so as to be illegible, and raised questions about this occurrence much earlier in 2008 after viewing the documents while at the Village Clerk's office.

It would appear that the DA feels there may have been violations based upon his initiation of this proceeding.  It is difficult to believe that such a proceeding would be called if it wasn't felt that sufficient evidence existed.  We'll learn more as a judge is found and a date is established for the John Doe.
