cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy and pretense and has the temerity to say so; anyone with the habit of pointing out unpleasant facts in an engaging and humorous manner
It seems almost like every day there is some new wrinkle announced or delay made that affects ObamaCare. I suspect that is because, as Rep. Pelosi said, ‘we have to pass the bill to find out what is in it’, but there seems no end to it all.
The latest, or at least I think it is the latest, is the unilateral decision by the White House to make December 31st the last day one can enroll instead of December 23rd as has been the standard for the past couple of weeks, since November 15th wasn't working out too well. This announcement also called upon the insurers to bill and collect premiums for that coverage retroactively since the coverage is to be in effect at 12:01AM on January 1, 2014. That certainly is not exposure which those insurers agreed to accept originally.
This probably comes about as the result of much slower uptake of enrollees than the White House expected, and certainly that it bragged would be the case. Remember that we were told they had projected some 7 million covered persons by March 31, 2014. That might be attainable but not at the current rate of uptake.
Then, we are treated to the anguish of listening to the Secretary of Health and Human Services as she struggles to testify before Congress but avoid actually having answered any questions. That isn’t an easy trick to master, even if one has no sense of honesty and ethics. Politi-speak has become so entrenched in Washington, D.C. as to make understanding virtually impossible; likely what it was always intended to accomplish.
This whole fiasco seems to be unfolding paragraph-by-paragraph as people learn another decision has to be made or that another excuse has to be launched. There is nothing resembling an orderly roll-out of a health care plan. Moreover, the geniuses who are doing the launch appear to have no knowledge of how health insurance companies function nor have they any concern about that.
This by now farcical dance is reminiscent of some of the better comedy routines I’ve seen on television if it weren’t so critical to so many people. There is nothing laughable about what is going on.
The best word I can use, today at least, is the word “pathetic”. This Administration has no shame. Our President has three years remaining and he is going to do everything he can to fulfill the goals he held from the moment he announced his first candidacy. You can decide for yourself what those goals entail for our country, but the path so far carved out suggests that it isn’t going to be good for the country.
