cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy and pretense and has the temerity to say so; anyone with the habit of pointing out unpleasant facts in an engaging and humorous manner
The ‘Knock-Out Game’ being called a ‘game’ defies the imagination. This is a brutal, physical attack that relies upon unsuspecting and innocent victims. There is nothing involved that resembles a game. The results of these attacks are typically an unconscious victim who slammed his or her face into the sidewalk or other surface without the ability to use arms and hands to try to ward off some of the damage. The victim is instantly unable to defend and obviously rendered unconscious by the blow. The victim drops like a rock. In the worst case this ‘game’ results in death.
This is the act of cowards who attack from the rear after passing a suitable victim and selecting him or her as the one. This is the act of people who cannot have much in the way of self-esteem. This is the act of people who give humankind a bad name. This is the act of people who have nothing going for themselves, and apparently this is how they decided they would make their particular mark on the society that enabled them. This is the act of people who behave more like animals than humans.
What is this phenomenon saying about where our society is today? What can be said about a society that has bred people who would do this kind of thing? Why is it that this has been going on for at least a couple of years and we are just being made aware of the ‘game’? Why has the press not reported on these occurrences until very recently?
This is purely and simply a hateful thing to do. There seems no attempt to rob the victim. The sole reason for this is to inflict pain, to raise fear in others, and to demonstrate that the people involved can do this and get away with it.
The concept that this is a ‘game’ may have originated from the video gaming industry that portrays similar activities and that enables scorekeeping for the onscreen people taken down by a single punch. Again, this speaks to a society that has some very significant issues with which it must deal. Ignoring the message will only result in further degradation of societal norms.
This ‘game’ is frightening in its portent.
