My Letter From Kathleen...

Healthcare, Economy, Political, Quality of Life, Taxes, U.S.

I received a nice letter from Kathleen over the week-end about “Medicare and the New Health Care Law – What it Means for You”.  I couldn’t wait to open it and read the contents.  This Kathleen by the way is Kathleen Sebelius who just happens to be Secretary of Health & Human Services for the United States.  She now runs health care for every man, woman and child in our country with the passage of what is now known as ObamaCare.

Are We Becoming What We Want To Be? (Updated)

Political, Quality of Life, U.S.

Helen Thomas either ‘slipped’ or said exactly what she thought when she was asked about Israel.  She said that the Israelis should “go home” and get out of the Palestinian’s land.  She said it with her characteristic snarl.  Then, upon follow-up by the reporter who had posed the question, she seemed truly dumbfounded that he would question her comment.  She has become an aged fool but she said what she believes.  We’ll see if there is a price to be paid such as being banned from the White House press corps.  (Note: Helen Thomas has resigned from her position according to Fox News about 11:25AM CDT.)

Budgets in the public sector are in atrocious condition.  Our school systems fight to maintain balanced budgets without jeopardizing the quality of their product.  Our state will begin its next budget cycle with a $2.3 Billion deficit.

Bucket lists have been discussed during the past few years.   I don’t recall the term prior to that time, but it refers to that list of “must do” things one might develop in anticipation of life’s days winding down.

Hard-Working Congress

People Making A Difference, Political, U.S.

We all know, or at least we should know because we’ve been reminded over and over again, that we have a very hard-working Congress.  We know that they sometimes work so hard that they have to pass laws in the middle of the night.  Now that is hard-working if I’ve ever heard about it.  At least you and I get to sleep once in awhile.  We don’t have to go on junkets or attend party after party to raise more money with which to gather votes.  We aren’t expected to travel overseas to gain knowledge with which to run the country.

Bank Take-Overs

We have changed banks again for the fourth time in not-too-many years.  It is not due to lack of good service or competitive offerings.  It is due to the seemingly constant shuffle of owners.

We have heard the phrase, “too big to fail” and for many, many months.  That has me wondering if there is another phrase that ought to become just as familiar to us.

Morning After Pill

Economy, Political, Quality of Life, U.S.

If there were a morning after pill that Presidents could take following a speech that drew negative comments from both liberal and conservative pundits, President Obama would be picking up the glass of water and the pill this morning.  He might even take two of those magic pills just to be sure he ridded himself of the stigma.

'Being Right' With Others...

Quality of Life

There are too few among us who give any thought to their relationships on a daily basis.  Then, we have an accident such as the one near Oconomowoc last week that claimed three young lives.  The loss of a young life in a kayak incident on Lake Michigan made the news a bit over a week ago.  And, the collapsing of a portion of the façade on the parking structure downtown yesterday that took one life.
