Europe Is Ahead In One Area

Quality of Life

We are behind Europe in one very important area, and I am thankful for that.  Europe lost the rights to manufacture, ship and purchase 75 watt incandescent light bulbs today, and will soon lose that right for all other sizes of incandescent bulbs.

Neumann Fatigue

Political, Wisconsin

Even as a person who enjoys the political scene, I find that I am rapidly tiring of Mark Neumann’s latest advertisements about how his two opponents are the people using negative ads to further their campaign goals.  He defines them as “career politicians” thus trying to make us think he is the knight in shining armor come to save the day.  He acts much more the career politician of the three by using these tactics.

Senator Kohl Receives An Award

Political, Taxes, Quality of Life

The Washington Examiner today gave our own Sen. Herb Kohl an honor he’d probably prefer to not have been given.  He was accorded their “Outrage” award for having guided a $400,000 ear mark to the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Agriculture.

Some Week-End Humor

Quality of Life

I had never heard of a “paraprosdokian” before a friend exposed me to the term and to sentences featuring paraprosdokians.  The definition says these are figures of speech in which the latter part of the sentence or phrase has a surprising or unexpected twist that makes you rethink the first part of the sentence or phrase.  They’re much more humorous than is the definition:

It Is Driving 'Them' Nuts

Political, Quality of Life, U.S., Wisconsin

Christine O’Donnell, who defeated the entrenched Republican in the Delaware senate primary on Tuesday, has brought out the worst in the staid, old Republican Party once again.  Karl Rove was nearly apoplectic as he discussed this ‘terrible’ thing that had occurred; he opined about how this one race could threaten the Republicans’ ability to re-capture the majority in the Senate.  The recognized RINO had gone down in flames.  Rove lamented that Republicans had lost a chance to get a majority.  But what wasn’t discussed was the value of a hollow majority upon which no one can rely when the chips are down.  RINOs simply cannot be relied upon in the most important votes; they have historically let us all down at the very time it counted the most.

November is Fast-Approaching

Political, Quality of Life, U.S., Wisconsin, Taxes, Economy, Healthcare

The fall elections are drawing nearer and nearer, thankfully.  The two major parties are scrambling to get the word out, to energize the voters they believe most likely to support their candidates, and to continue to raise campaign money.  The television and radio stations are basking in the spending that will give them all a good quarter or a good year financially.
