Labor Day 2011 Reflections
The last year has certainly been difficult for organized labor in Wisconsin. There are likely many in the movement asking themselves what, if anything, they have to celebrate today – Labor Day 2011.
Job Creation
It seems fitting that, emerging from Labor Day week-end, we would be focusing on JOBs this week. Our President will address the nation, or at least the part of it that will be watching, on Thursday prior to the Packers-Saints NFL game.
"One and Done?"
When Maureen Dowd, of New York Times fame, publishes an Op-ed in the Times on September 3rd titled “One and Done?” we know that it must be serious. This piece basically ‘sliced and diced’ the President for his lack of performance and for his reliance on speeches instead of results.
Should 9/11 Be Sanitized?
As I listened to Jay Weber’s show in the background this morning, I heard the discussion about whether or not the coverage of the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy should be complete with the ugly scenes or sanitized to protect the consumer.
More of the Same?
Fortunately, I was unable to watch all but a tiny bit of the president’s speech telling us how government was going to help create more jobs. I have, however, not been able to help myself but to read and view as much this morning as I can concerning that speech.
Terrorism Threats
As we observe the happenings of 9/11 amidst another threat that has our country wondering if there will be a strike on the tenth anniversary of the holocaust that saw the trade towers demolished, there are questions as to who and what is the greatest threat today.
Village Buzz - September 12th
The concept of a Public Safety Director for Germantown has been in varying stages of discussion for some time at the Public Safety Committee level. A recent article in the Express News of September 10th fleshed out the current status. The Board, meeting as a Committee of the Whole, is expected to take up the conversation in the near future suggesting that there is some impetus for making such a change.
Is There a Reaganesque Person Emerging?
There is an interesting thing going on in the Republican Party as the candidates desiring to be nominated to run for the presidency debate. Gerald Seib discusses it in his Capitol Journal piece in today’s Wall Street Journal and validates what I’ve been thinking for the past few weeks.

Village Buzz - September 22nd
The G’town Village Board has spoken on the issue of concealed carry within the village, and especially within village buildings.
Color Me Disappointed
I wanted to see Gov. Perry hit a home run last evening, but, even with the little I saw coupled with the pundits telling me what they saw, I was disappointed. I’ll watch the full debate later today, but I suspect I’ll not be able to find anything that dissuades me from believing that he fell short of my hopes and expectations.
Corrupted Error Report!!
“Corrupted Error Report”. That was the phrase that helped to start my day. My laptop, a bit over four years old, started up just fine and I worked on e-mails for about a half-hour. I went into the bathroom to begin the process of trying to appear human and heard my computer rebooting itself.
Perpetual Funding Crises
A perpetual “funding crisis” to go along with a perpetual “campaign” seems to make sense to one of the parties in our two-party system (with apologies to the Tea Party which claims it isn’t one).
Are You Using the Tools?
Are you using the tools? That is the question that Sue Borden said she was hearing over and over again as the school district worked on the budget numbers for the coming year. The good news is that she and the staff and the board were using the tools provided and the levy has been reduced as the result.
Messiah Chorus Open to New Members
The mixed chorus that will perform the Messiah in December begins it rehearsals this coming Monday (October 3rd) evening at Stony Hills in Germantown (N112 W17655 Mequon Road) from 7PM to 9PM.
Cain is Able
Listening to Jerry Bott on WISN this morning, I heard him say “Cain is able”, an obvious play on the Biblical story of two brothers. I don’t know if he is the first to utter that phrase, but I’ll wager that we’ll be hearing a lot more of it.
