Curmudgeon's Corner

cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy and pretense and has the temerity to say so; anyone with the habit of pointing out unpleasant facts in an engaging and humorous manner

17-16 or 16-17?

Wisconsin, Political, Quality of Life

17-16 or 16-17?  That is the question to be answered for some time to come if Sen. Dale Schultz (R) continues to work his magic as the ‘swing’ vote in the Wisconsin Senate.

Cain Still Standing

U.S., Political

The Cain campaign organization is an interesting animal amongst campaign organizations.  It doesn’t seem to have a lot of high power politicos, has no big names involved and seems to run on a day-to-day cycle that sometimes catches them sleeping.

The debate, if it can be called that, over education grants being weighted in favor of minority applicants was quite informative, even though we have learned that it was totally unnecessary.

We Never Know...

Quality of Life, Potpourri

Many people left their homes yesterday to drive to work; just another long day in a seeming never-ending series of long days that are interrupted by week-ends.  Then, an automobile hydroplaned on Hwy 41-45 and everything changed in the blink of an eye.  One of those people did not live to the end of that chronological day.  Several others did live but were injured, and will carry the experience with them for many days and months to come, if not forever.

Washington County Budget Meeting Is Interesting

County Board, Political, Quality of Life, Taxes

The Washington County Board meeting held on November 3rd was a display of something less than a well-functioning Board in my estimation.  The debate can be seen here and the less functional portion of that debate occurs from about minute 40 to the end of the meeting.

As a direct result of this meeting, another former member of the Board has decided he will again run for a seat in what is now District 8.  Don Berchum who was in attendance stated, “You cannot lead by being a dictator”. In response to the manner in which the Board Chair, Herb Tennies, conducted that meeting.

Quality of Life, People Making A Difference

The Penn State debacle continues to unfold and apparently more possible victims are emerging according to the Pennsylvania State Police.  The full range of “facts” aren’t yet established as fact; however the responses of various participants seem to provide confirmation on a broad level that there are facts involved.

Herman, Herman, Herman...

Political, U.S.

Wow!  This certainly looked like a meltdown and it has gone viral.  Herman Cain flubbed the Libya question and, as much as I dislike saying this, does not appear to be ready to become the next president of our country.

Ineptocracy

I received the definition of a new word, to me at least, from a friend who lives in Illinois.  I have looked at it and thought about it for several weeks now.  Given the season of silliness we seem to be in perpetually, this new word might be needed in our regular political lexicon.

Last One Standing?

Last one standing?  Might there be no one left standing after the vetting of Republican candidates by the main stream media?  It is plain to see during the political season that there is a decided bias within the main stream media.

Cain Crumbling?

U.S., Political

Is this latest revelation sufficient to end the Herman Cain campaign?  There have been other situations, may other situations in fact, where people running for office, or in office, have had affairs, or indiscretions if you prefer.  Some have crashed and burned as the result, while others have essentially received a pass.  JFK was notorious for his indiscretions but there was never any thought that he ought to step down.
