Altitude or Attitude?

Altitude or attitude?  Which is to blame for the very poor performance of our President in Denver a few evenings ago?

Al Gore would lay the blame for that showing at the feet of Denver’s altitude and the President’s lack of sufficient time to adjust.  I would lay the blame at the feet of attitude; the attitude that the President had coming into this debate was obviously not appropriate.  He thought he’d cream Romney and the opposite occurred.  Swagger alone didn’t cut it that night.

His attitude was on display from the moment he sauntered onto the stage; he just knew he was the smartest guy on the stage, and quite possibly in the room.  He was wrong, and when that realization hit him, he was angry and sullen.  Ours is a President who sees nothing about himself that he’d improve; after all, when you’re already perfect, how could you improve?  So why waste the effort when you’re already there.

The next presidential debate will be different; we are already getting the preparation ‘we’ need for the second coming of The One.  We have ‘learned’ that everything Romney said was a distortion at best and lies at the worst.  We have ‘learned’ that the moderator was the problem right alongside Romney.  We should be prepared for the real “Chicago” approach for the next two debates.  Axelrod will have him pumped and Michelle will have told him he’d better get it on this time; no more mediocre crap will be tolerated.  She isn’t ready to move back to Chi-town.  This gig is too special.

Now we come to the single debate between Vice President Joe Biden and the Republican nominee, Representative Paul Ryan.  The two styles could not be more different than they are.  Biden is the ‘hale fellow well met’ and Ryan is the wonkish young guy who might be a tad too bright.  While Biden has had the habit of inserting foot into mouth from time to time, I doubt that will happen this time.  He will have been too tightly controlled and prepped.  BUT, that might leave him before the debate has finished.  Biden might see that fat old softball floating to him at the plate and just be unable to resist taking a mighty swing.

Our time in political purgatory continues but the calendar is clicking along toward November 6th.
