Curmudgeon's Corner
cur-mud-geon: anyone who hates hypocrisy and pretense and has the temerity to say so; anyone with the habit of pointing out unpleasant facts in an engaging and humorous manner
"Morning Joe"
I had the rare occasion to see some of the program titled ‘Morning Joe’ on Monday and to have witnessed the rabid dog approach of Chris Matthews as he ‘interviewed’ Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican Party.
Matthews literally lost control of himself time after time thus denying Priebus the ability to respond to the slurs and accusations that had been hurled in his direction. Just as Priebus broke through the bedlam Tom Brokaw came to Matthews’ rescue with a rant of his own, although not nearly so angry with no spittle flying unlike Matthews. These two actually made Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, the DNC chairperson, seem tame by comparison even as she repeats the lies and half-truths, over and over again, that she has been fed for that days’ consumption.
This apparently is what passes for debate in some circles. This is anything but debate; it is simply venting by the liberal side of the ‘discussion’, except that ‘discussion’ implies both sides are involved.
When did these people become so incensed and out-of-control? When was it exactly that they lost their sanity and their ability to engage in valid discourse? If this is what is going on today, can you imagine the atmosphere should Romney and Ryan take their respective oaths of office in mid-January?
I ought to make myself view this screed more often; it would certainly keep my juices flowing.
Tom Brokaw made his millions as the even-handed, non-political voice of NBC News for many years. While many thought him to be a liberal, he managed, usually, to keep himself near the center line although always slightly to its left. He is now ‘Tom Brokaw Unleashed’ and he does himself no favors by being such.
These people make fools of themselves, and, frankly, they take those who seem to worship at their feet down that same road. If they cannot maintain their continuous monologue, they revert to the name-calling and frenzied burst of language to keep the other person from having any opportunity to respond. Those opportunities exist for a second or two only as they have to pause to fill their lungs with air.
I have to wonder if they are actually proud of themselves when all is said and done. If so, they are worse off than I would’ve even imagined in my wildest dreams. How one could take pride in the loss of senses makes no sense to me. On those few occasions when I have succumbed, I am completely embarrassed when I have recovered and feel the need to make apologies.
American viewers deserve better than this, and they may well be aware of that if one watches ratings closely enough.
