Throw The Bums Out?
Members of the military from Wisconsin who are serving overseas will get short shrift again this election season. A new federal law required that states send the ballots out at least 45 days prior to the election. Yet Wisconsin has filed for permission to delay that and, in fact, will send the ballots out just 34 days prior to the election.
There is a reason for this and it is purely political if I don’t miss my guess.
If I were a betting person, I’d bet that someone somewhere has determined that military voters are more likely to be conservative voters than liberal voters. That would certainly account for the hesitancy of Wisconsin’s current ‘rulers’ to abide by a seemingly good change that would permit those defending us to vote as if they were here.
Regardless of political persuasion, it is simply not right for this arbitrary delay to exist anywhere and yet Wisconsin is one of eleven states that will fail to follow the federal law.
It is not right that our Governor Doyle has turned his back on this, and it is not right that the U.S. Attorney General is turning his back and that of his department on this travesty. If either of those gentlemen really wanted to abide by this deadline, they certainly could’ve taken steps to make that happen. Yet, they’ve chosen to do nothing other than consciously slow the process.
The pundits see the coming election as swinging heavily to those who would ‘throw the bums out’ and that, if true, is threatening to the incumbents who are currently in control…that would be the party with the donkey symbol. This is also the election that will determine how voting district boundaries will be drawn following the census just about completed.
There is simply too much coincidence to believe other than that this is being engineered by current office holders to protect themselves and their party’s members from being ‘overthrown’.
Yet more rationale for those who want to “throw the bums out”.
