The Germantown Park & Recreation Department is accepting donations for their 10th Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which is set for Saturday, March 15th at 1:00 p.m. sharp at Firemen’s Park. The hunt is for children in the Germantown School District ages 1-7. In order to make this a truly successful event, we are again asking all area businesses and service organizations for donations or for volunteers to help out on the day of the event. Donations are needed in the form of bags of candy (wrapped candies only), prizes (stuffed bunnies, coloring books, plastic eggs, small toys, etc.) or money donations. Last year approximately 650 children participated in the hunt, so we are estimating that we will need at least 500 bags of candy for this year. Anything you could donate would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. All donations will be needed by Friday, March 9th. Donations can be dropped off at the Village Hall, or if you need assistance we can arrange to come pick them up. If you have any questions, or would like to become more involved, please feel free to call the Rec. Dept. at 250-4710.

The Park and Recreation Department is beginning the process of updating the 5 year comprehensive plan. The purpose of the comprehensive planning process is to generate goals and objectives to improve parks and recreation services in the Village of Germantown. The first step of the planning process was to mail 1,000 surveys to randomly selected Germantown residents.
Why do a survey? With the growing population of the Village of Germantown, the Germantown Park and Recreation Department wants to ensure that the residents recreational needs are being met. The best way to determine if those needs are being met is to ask a sampling of the total population.
If you were one of the recipients we would greatly appreciate your time in completing the survey.

On Monday, May 5 summer program registration began. This was the first big test for online registration and we encountered a small problem. We know what the problem is and are taking immediate steps to address it.
As of right now the number of households that can register online at one time is limited to 10. When this issue is resolved we will update this site.
If you continue to have issues please contact the office so we can assist you. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Thanks,

While it has been over 130 years since Arbor Day was founded, the simple idea of setting aside a special day for tree planting is now more important than ever. On Friday, May 9th Germantown Kids Klub spent several hours planting trees at Friedenfeld Park. Over 50 participants ages 5-12 took part in the event. The kids spent time planting crab apple & maple trees as well as participating in a forestry class instructed by Park & Recreation Commission Member, Mary Ellen Gray.
The Recreation Department and the Kids Klub Program felt that it was important to do their part to help plant trees that will last generations. All this would not have been possible without the help of our amazing coaches. Thank you so much to all of you especially to Coach Cynthia and Jeff De Vor for running the program. Have you ever watched a tv show and thought, "I can do that"?
Well, here is your chance to prove it. The Germantown Recreation Department is offering a local version of The Amazing Race. This is a new program for both youth (ages 5+) and adults to participate in. Teams of adults and children will have to think and act quickly as they read clues and perform fun tasks while exploring the different areas of Germantown. We may not be crossing continents or taking weeks on this adventure, but the race will be overflowing with fun for the whole family! Register early to make sure your team can compete in this family friendly edition of The Amazing Race. Registration fee includes team shirts (shirts are not guaranteed for late registrations - after Friday, September 26th). Clues will be throughout the village and teams are responsible for their own transportation. This is a one day event held on Friday, October 17, 2008 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The race begins at Kinderberg Park before leading you around the village. All this fun and excitement can be yours for $8 per person if you are residents and $12 per person if you are non-residents or school district residents. Only the first 20 teams will be able to participate so register NOW!!!

This is the 3rd year that the groups hosted the event in which the girls took the field and kicked for three minutes straight. Each participant either earned sponsors for each kick executed or blanket donations. This was followed by each participating team presenting a routine for the audience.
The grand total for our recreation department teams is not in yet, but we currently stand at over $2800 for the cause.
